Is the DJI Mavic 2 Pro allowed to be flown without an EU drone licence from 01.07.2020?

On 01.07.2020 the new EU drone regulation will come into force. According to current information, drones with a take-off weight of more than 900g require a drone driver’s license. Looking at the technical data of the Mavic 2 Pro with its 907g weight, it seems at first glance as if the new driving license for this drone is being prepared. But with a simple trick, the Mavic 2 Pro falls down to the 900g weight limit.
Consider take-off weight of 900g
The weight limit of 900g according to the EU UAV regulation is the indication of the take-off weight, not the device-specific weight indication of the manufacturer. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro (Amazon Affiliate Link) is specified by DJI as 907g, which means that it would be subject to the driving licence requirement.
Some forums are already discussing whether it is still worth buying a DJI Mavic 2 Pro (Amazon Affiliate Link) when it becomes compulsory to obtain a driver’s license in July and pilots will have to pay additional costs.
Removing unnecessary attachments is sufficient
So, like many others, I thought about how to lower the take-off weight of the drone by 8g to get a take-off weight below 900g.

The accomplishment of this task is easier than expected and is possible without any mechanical manipulation of the drone.
Whoever detaches the transparent camera gimbal protection before flight saves 13g of weight. I personally remove this protection before every flight anyway, because the protection has no advantages, rather even disadvantages for the image quality of the camera.
With these 13g weight savings the drone can be equipped with SD card and stick-on fireproof drone identification without weighing more than 900g.
Due to the weight limitation, no one has to go without buying the DJI Mavic 2 Pro (Amazon Affiliate Link) as long as the gimbal protection is removed before flight.

If you want to fly a drone like the DJI Mavic 2 Pro (Amazon Affiliate Link) or the Fimi X8 SE (Amazon Affiliate Link) in Germany, you have to stick a small sign with the name and address of the pilot. Drone landing site
At first I didn’t understand why you needed a landing site for the drone. After all, I thought I could take off and land on any flat surface. That’s only half true, because at the latest in high grass, deep leaves, snow or sand you’ll have problems. Loose ground is whirled up, soiling the drone and camera, propellers get stuck in grass and leaves. For this reason alone a drone landing pad makes sense. Many drones, including the DJI Mavic 2 Pro or the Fimi X8 SE, also use optical sensors to detect the landing site and then use this for the precise automatic landing approach.
I decided to use a foldable landing pad with a diameter of 110 cm. This sounds very big at first, but with moderate wind I was already glad to have decided for the large version. The landing is much easier than if you only had 50 cm space.
